[Prolific](https://www.prolific.com/participants?ref=thepayoutledger.com) is an academic research and AI training site. It is used by organisations and academic institutions to source high quality data. It is also used by some companies to conduct AI training. It is common to see studies from universities available on the site hosted by postgraduate students. All these groups above are known as Researchers. Researchers are the ones who need the data and they source it through Prolific. They set up their study and set the pay rate, and it is sent out to the participants who meet the demographics that they ask for. Participants are the users which complete studies and tasks for money. Instead of an endless wall of surveys like other sites, studies will appear to you with a set pay rate and number of places available. Screenouts are rare because studies that arrive to you are already tailored to your demographics. In the rare event of a screenout, you will always receive some compensation. # Earning Potential of Prolific One of the main selling points of Prolific is the minimum pay rate. Each study must pay a minimum of £6/$9 per hour. That is the minimum by the rules. However, many studies will pay you a rate of £9/$12 per hour, as this is recommended by the platform as it can result in better data quality for researchers. That means, of course, you can earn much more on this site compared to other sites. It is also not uncommon for researchers to offer bonuses for studies. This is an extra payment on top of the base pay for the study. It varies wildly based on the researcher's requirements and there is competition. So if you want to take a lot of studies, you'll need to be quick once they appear. Don't be surprised if you don't get into all of them, it is normal. There will always be some for you to do if you check across the day. Study availability varies from user to user due to multiple factors. The first is your country. As a general rule, the US will receive the most surveys. That's followed by the UK, Canada, and Australia. Every other country will get less. If you are in those top countries above, you can earn a nice amount from Prolific. I am based in the UK with non-rare demographics and I am able to earn £15-25 on weekdays from Prolific comfortably. This is a nice rate and well above most survey sites. This puts Prolific in a league of its own when it comes to earning potential. Demographics will also influence how much you can earn from Prolific. My demographics are not rare or hard to find but I can still get a decent rate. If you have high demand demographics, you could earn much more, or less if your demographics are less desired. Whatever the case, you will not earn a very low amount, due to the requirements to get into the platform which we will discuss shortly. ## Withdrawals Withdrawals are via PayPal only. The minimum payout is set at £6/$6\. Barely above average but still ok. When you first sign up, you will be able to cashout once every three days. After your first 3 withdrawals, the cooldown period will reduce to once per day. It is important to be honest here as it will be checked. Upon sign up, if your demographics are in high enough demand, you will be accepted and sent to the onboarding. Otherwise, you will be sent onto the waitlist. The waitlist is required to ensure a demographic balance for participants on the site so all participants have earning opportunities regardless of their demographics. If you are on the waitlist, you'll need to just wait until you get an email that you are off it. It can take months or a year, its not a queue based system but rather just based on when they need you. Just used other sites while you wait. # Does Prolific require KYC? Yes, Prolific requires identity verification. In onboarding, you will be required to verify your ID through the 3rd party service Onfido. They do this to make sure you are who you say you are. Once you are onboarded and using the site, you can be prompted randomly to verify by a face scan. This is because of the superior pay rates and good survey matching. Also, the low cashout minimum is appreciated and some studies are genuinely interesting to complete.
